SECONDARY ASSISTANT TEACHER JOB OPENING
We are soliciting resumes at this time for a Secondary Assistant Guide. This is a Full-Time position working with 7th-8th grade students. The school year runs from early August until late May, operating on a 4-day school week, Mondays-Thursdays. This position works collaboratively with the lead teachers to create an environment conducive to the maturation of adolescents in the realization of their fullest potential.
Job Description:
Assisting the lead guides in maintaining an authentic Montessori culture of learning.
Assisting the leads in maintaining classroom expectations.
Learning the conflict resolution process, communicating to the lead when students need help in a conflict resolution, and guiding children through conflicts once the associate feels comfortable with the process.
Serving as assistant and partner to the leads.
Preparing and presenting lessons/projects, as agreed on with the leads.
Completing tasks delegated by the leads (administrative, clean-up, classroom management, etc).
Subbing for the leads when necessary.
Assisting the leads with progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.
Assisting the leads with organizing/implementing all Secondary big trips and events.
Assisting leads with student committees.
Primary Tasks:
Work with and create a positive rapport with students and parents/guardians
Participating in circle time/class meetings.
Implementing classroom management for the leads while lessons are being given (answering questions, redirecting children who are wandering/disruptive, etc)
Moving through the classroom regularly to monitor the activity of the students.
Alerting the leads when a conflict has arisen in the classroom or on the playground (even if it seems to be resolved).
Running the classroom when a lead is in conflict resolution conversations or otherwise engaged, including independently overseeing transition periods.
Assisting with/overseeing clean-up at the end of the work cycles.
Regularly cleaning the classroom before or after school (in addition to the student’s cleaning).
Directing parent inquiries to the lead teacher.
Checking student work throughout the week.
Acting as primary “go-to” adult for first aid and health issues.
Performing administrative tasks (making copies, taking attendance, organizing field trips, record keeping, etc.).
Perform other duties as appropriate in support of the program
Participate in SMCS development of curriculum and instruction
Attend classroom field trips
